The Emmy Awards are moving to streaming. On October 6, 2026, the Television Academy and Prime Video announced a six-year agreement establishing Prime Video as the exclusive global home of the Emmy Awards, beginning with the 2027 ceremony. The Academy says the ceremony will continue to anchor the television season by airing live in September and will not be behind a paywall; Amazon says the awards will stream live and free, with no subscription required, in more than 240 countries and territories.

The agreement succeeds the Academy's traditional "Wheel Deal" rotation among ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, which concluded with this year's telecast. The 78th Emmy Awards aired September 14, 2026 on NBC and Peacock from Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE, hosted by Mariska Hargitay. Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said television "has never been more global, and the Emmys should be a celebration that the world can share."

A date and venue for the 2027 ceremony have not been announced.
