Glendale Approves a $31 Million "Garden Bridge" Linking Its Riverwalk to the Griffith Park Side

Glendale has cleared the last major hurdle for a striking new piece of public infrastructure on the Los Angeles River. In June 2026 the city adopted the environmental findings for the Glendale–Los Angeles Garden River Bridge, a $31 million pedestrian and bicycle crossing that doubles as a landscaped floating park over the river.

Designed by the firm OLIN, the 320-foot, two-span bridge carries separate walking and biking paths lined with raised planters, shade canopies, seating and river overlooks, connecting the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk to the Griffith Park side near the LA Zoo. Its curving form is modeled on a river point bar, the sediment a river deposits on the inside of a bend. Funded largely by state Prop 68 and LA County Measure R, it is now in final design, with construction expected around 2030.
