Hollywood Burbank Airport's $1.3 Billion Replacement Terminal Opens October 13

Hollywood Burbank Airport's Replacement Passenger Terminal, delivered under the project name Elevate BUR, is scheduled to open October 13, 2026, the date the countdown on the official Elevate BUR site points to. The new building spans 355,000 square feet compared with the existing terminal's 232,000, a 53 percent increase, while the gate count stays at 14, protected by Measure B, which lets Burbank city commissioners block any attempt to add gates.

Total project cost is approximately $1.298 billion, comprising a $1.11 billion guaranteed maximum price for design and construction, $164.2 million in other costs and $24.4 million for demolition. Funding comes from federal grants, passenger facility charges, airport revenue bonds and airline fees, with no state, county or local tax dollars.

The terminal includes a 45,900-square-foot aircraft parking area for boarding and deplaning and is designed for front-and-rear aircraft loading. The Authority has not said whether BUR's signature outdoor airstair boarding continues. The existing terminal, built in 1930, will be demolished after airlines and passengers fully transition and a 60-day testing period, run with both terminals live, concludes.
