John Stamos and Richard Marx Release "Take Care of California" Music Video

John Stamos and Richard Marx released the music video for "Take Care of California" on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Written by Stamos with songwriting partner Michael Gigante and producing partner Michael Campion, the song features Stamos and Marx sharing vocals, both playing guitar in the video, with Waylon Payne on harmonica. Stamos also directed the music video, which was produced by Campion.

Stamos, a California native who has toured and recorded with The Beach Boys for more than 30 years, describes the state as beautiful, complicated, resilient and fragile, and calls the song a love letter and a reminder to take care of the place you call home. He and his wife Caitlin have worked with Habitat for Humanity helping families and communities at home, and he says that same spirit sits at the heart of the track.

The collaboration began when Marx asked Stamos to play on his new album After Hours; Stamos shared a rough mix of the song and Marx agreed to sing on it. Marx, who has fourteen No. 1 singles and more than 45 million albums sold, says he believes the song should be California's new state song.
