The Museum of Neon Art in Glendale Is a $10 Ticket to LA's Glowing History

The Museum of Neon Art (MONA) at 216 S Brand Blvd in Glendale exhibits and collects historic neon signs alongside electric and kinetic artworks. Founded in 1981 by artists Lili Lakich and Richard Jenkins in downtown Los Angeles, the museum moved through several locations before opening its permanent Glendale home in February 2016.

Current exhibitions include Michael Flechtner: Ecce Artifex, which the museum notes arrives 34 years after Flechtner's 1991 solo MONA show, and a rotating selection from the permanent collection. MONA is open Thursday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. General admission is 10 dollars, seniors 65 and over pay 8 dollars, Glendale residents with ID pay 5 dollars, EBT cardholders pay 3 dollars, and children 12 and under and veterans with ID are free.

The museum also offers hands-on classes, including a one-day Neon Art Immersive for guests 18 and over on September 26, October 11 and October 25 for 325 dollars (the September 20 session is sold out), with participants taking home a finished piece.
