Sonmari

Sonmari, at 3503 Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake, takes its name from the Korean word for hand rolls, and its signature is an open-faced, build-it-yourself format: rice and fish arrive on a wooden plank, and you slide them onto a sheet of nori. The restaurant describes itself as a modern hand roll and sushi spot with Korean roots, Japanese technique and a California influence, and the menu extends to sushi, sashimi, crudo and small plates such as uni toast, crispy rice and a gamja-jeon potato pancake with caviar.

Hand rolls include Unagi Gochujang and Banh Mi versions. It comes from the team behind Temaki Society.
