Santa Barbara artist Tama Takahashi opens The Land and Sea in 24-Karat Gold at Gallery 825, the nonprofit exhibition arm of the Los Angeles Art Association, on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

She collages Japanese washi paper with watercolor or oil paint onto 24-karat gold screens custom made in Kyoto by third-generation master craftsman Osamu Iohara, helping revive interest in a folding-screen tradition with more than 1,200 years of history in Japan.

The centerpiece is a 6-foot, four-panel screen of the Santa Barbara waterline, joined by eight marine-creature studies on alloy gold foil and seven single-panel screens on 24-karat gold leaf. Takahashi is in the gallery from noon to 4 PM on opening day, and the show is on view by appointment through November 20.
