The Broad's Next Free Exhibition, Has the Myth Been Shattered, Opens November 21

The Broad opens Has the myth been shattered on November 21, 2026, a free collection exhibition running through April 4, 2027. Curated by Assistant Curator Jen Vanegas Rocha, the show brings together works by 14 artists spanning six decades, including Richard Artschwager, Sue Coe, Leon Golub, Barbara Kruger, Glenn Ligon, Robert Longo, Goshka Macuga, Guadalupe Rosales, Thomas Ruff, Mark Tansey, Hank Willis Thomas, Mickalene Thomas, Andy Warhol and David Wojnarowicz, to examine how mass media has shaped history and public memory. More than a dozen works will be on view at the museum for the first time, including new acquisitions by Rosales and Hank Willis Thomas.

The exhibition takes its title from Rosales's 2024 work, which encases a Los Angeles Times front page from the days after the 1992 Los Angeles Uprising in an engraved aluminum frame with a two-way mirror and LED lights that make its headlines glow. Also on view is Hank Willis Thomas's Black Survival Guide, or How to Live Through a Police Riot, a 1968 pamphlet reproduced on retroreflective vinyl, with images of the 1968 National Guard occupation of Wilmington, Delaware revealed over the text when exposed to camera flash, and Mickalene Thomas's The Charnel House (Resist #5).
