A DJ Competition Coming to Catch One Requires No Experience at All

Your Shot, a DJ competition and academy founded in Australia in 2010 by Steve Pillemer, brings its second US edition to Los Angeles with a selection day at Catch One on West Pico Boulevard, reported for September 12, 2026. The program's defining feature is that it requires no prior DJ experience, equipment or industry connections. Entrants register online, attend an in-person selection day, then complete five weeks of training consisting of one three-hour in-person session per week before a two-day showcase event.

Gear partners are AlphaTheta, the parent of Pioneer DJ, and Sony. Winners have received performance slots at F1 Las Vegas, CRSSD, Elements Music & Arts Festival, Sound Nightclub, EDSea and The 5th Element in North America, plus Hideout and Snowbombing in Europe. The 2025 US debut drew more than 500 first-time DJs and over 10,000 showcase attendees, and more than 8,300 people had pre-registered nationally for 2026 at announcement. The Los Angeles date sits alongside Denver, Miami and Brooklyn on the US tour.
