Downtown LA has many rooftops to overlook the city, but the Wayfarer rooftop is a favorite for locals. The food has been rated delicious and the service is top tier. Not to mention it's located in the Wayfarer Hotel which is also an amazing stay.

You can enjoy weekday happy hours between 4-6pm and enjoy ocean views with their resident DJ on Saturday nights from 8pm until midnight. The food options lean towards small plates. This is a great hidden gem for sunsets.

In the most popular LA area, Hollywood, lies the rooftop dining bar, Bar Lis. The special thing about this rooftop restaurant is they hold new themes and events all the time. Make sure to check the Bar Lis website to see what fun themes they have in store. This place is also aesthetically pleasing to the eye with flowers everywhere around you, and beautiful scenery with an amazing combo of French and Californian style. I would say this rooftop location is the most mesmerizing. Spire 73 has the western hemisphere's highest open-air bar, and has a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. You will see all of Los Angeles and much more.

High Rooftop Lounge @ Hotel Erwin

1697 Pacific Avenue, Venice Beach

Perched atop Hotel Erwin, High Rooftop Lounge is one of my personal favorites to watch the sunset in Venice Beach. The place has a chill vibe, and is great for bigger groups too. Be sure to reserve a table in advance if you want an Ocean Front VIP Section.

The place is huge. You can walk in and get one of the high-top tables or just hang out while watching the sunset. This place is great for happy hour, brunch, or enjoying a few craft cocktails.

This newly renovated rooftop is chic and glamorous. If you are looking for a French-Californian dining experience with French classics and a wide collection of French and American wines, this intimate and upscale space is the place to be.

The rooftop’s open décor is great for the day and night.

To get a 360 view of Beverly Hills, and enjoy an exceptional gourmet meal, head to The Rooftop by JG. The lobster burger is a must try. It’s a great spot for date nights and relaxed evenings.

If you are visiting and plan to spend the day strolling and shopping on Rodeo Drive, this spot is less than a mile away. Enjoy a few drinks while you watch the sunset.

The rooftop is a very contemporary Cal-Fusion restaurant that is popular with the guests here that stay at the hotel. If you're looking for a palace vibe to have a casual breakfast, lunch, or an early dinner and drinks, make sure to check out The Roof Garden.

It closes by 9 pm, so this place is better for the daytime.

Another great spot to get a 360 view of Beverly Hills that is withing walking distance from Rodeo Drive is this rooftop located in the SIXTY Beverly Hills Hotel. It has a cozy poolside lounge with views of the skyline and the canyons.

You might catch a live DJ, depending on the day, or just visit to spend time taking in the grand views.

The Penthouse at Mastro's

The Penthouse at Mastro's like a lot of upscale spots in Beverly Hills is also not open too late. However, this is a great place for a fancy dinner.

It’s slightly casual compared to the steakhouse downstairs, but has a spectacular menu. The rooftop has an indoor and outdoor space and the décor is honed in Veuve Clicquot bottles.

The best bars in Long Beach

Long Beach

This happening rooftop patio is not only a rooftop but also one of the best bars in Long Beach. They have happy hours everyday with prices that you can’t beat; $8 margaritas and they are open till 2am nightly! Be sure to ask for their special cocktails not listed on the menu as they always have innovative drinks. Thursday nights are a lot of fun as they have guest DJs playing Hip Hop, Cumbia and Reggaetón music that you can dance the night away to.

BO-beau Kitchen + Roof Tap

144 Pine Ave, Long Beach

This casual gastro pub has two levels and the rooftop patio contains a vast menu consisting of small plates, soups and salads, burgers and sandwiches and bistro plates. It also has a cute view of the street.

If you are looking for a fun night out during the week, you can check out their Tour de BO-beau Tasting Menu featuring a 4 course meal of their classics, priced at $39.95 (excluding tax and gratuity); a great bang for your buck.

Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach

285 Bay St, Long Beach

Topsail rooftop offers a beautiful view of Long Beach where you can enjoy small plates by the pool. This is the only rooftop pool in Long Beach. They offer a small menu of local brews, cocktails and wine to choose from. A great spot for a quick bite and drink.

Michael's on Naples Ristorante

This spot has a rooftop deck just outside their dining room. It's a great spot to host private events, or meet up with a group of friends. Their Sunday brunch is popular for 1/2 off bottles of Sparkling Rose. You can also enjoy wine by the glass, wine by the bottle, or cocktails.

Saint and Second

Sant and Second in Long Beach has both indoor dining and patio dining which is a great option depending on the weather. They take pride in the work that goes behind curating everything from local ingredients for the menu and the inspiration behind their delicious cocktails.

Their grand selection of wines can be enjoyed over lunch, dinner, during their social hours which is what they call their happy hour), and weekend brunch.

Geoffreys Malibu

If you are looking for a memorable day or evening out in Malibu with views of the ocean, head to Geoffrey’s. The reason we put it on our list is because of the unbeatable views. Even though its not a high rise it is risen over the Pacific Ocean. The food is a spectacular; a spread of seafood and meat entrees that include steak, chicken, and duck. The best part is that you can enjoy the ocean even if it gets a little chilly as they have cozy fire pits to keep guests warm. Especially recommended on full moon nights, to soak in the view of the moonlight reflecting off the ocean waves.

This Italian seafood and cocktail bar in Malibu has great views of the golden hour that Malibu is famous for. It has a no fluff, casual patio seating that you can go to with family or friends after enjoying a day at the beach.

The Surfrider Malibu

The bar and restaurant located in the Surfrider Hotel is a roof deck and perfect for some daytime chill. It feels like you are enjoying a meal on the deck of your own Malibu beach house.

The menu has dishes that are made from local and organic produce and have the typical Coastal-Californian touch to it.

Pasadena may be a drive from downtown LA, and away from the ocean, but don't let that discourage you from finding a rooftop dining experience in the city.

Bar Del Mar at Granville in Pasadena has made it to be one of the best rooftop bars in Los Angeles County. They have beautiful decks, with a lounge like feeling, where you can go with big groups, or enjoy a cozy corner table for date night. The most popular items on the menu are handcrafted burgers and sandwiches, but you can also enjoy a variety of pastas and big plates of seafood, chicken, and steak. They have a good selection of cocktails and wines too.

Foothill is a lively restaurant that is great for dinner and hosting social events. They have brunch available on Saturdays and Sundays and live music on Thursdays and sometimes Sundays. Keep an eye out for special events like wine tastings. This counts more as a patio seating restaurant, but we love that Pasadena has this option. They also have a happy hour menu that has a lot of food options.

Café Santorini

64 West Union Street, Old Pasadena

Cafe Santorini is perched on an old brick building in the heart of Pasadena and is a great spot for Mediterranean cuisine. The ambience is more intimate and great for dinner. They also have happy hours for drinks.

This secret spot is not known by tourists (until now?), so you can head there for some great tasting food. The Mediterranean appetizers, kabobs, and lamb dishes are some of the best kept food secrets of Pasadena.

Rooftop at The Glenmark

MYA Rooftop at the Glenmark hotel is on the 7th floor of the hotel and has great views of the stunning Verdugi Mountains.

Their delicious small plates are a great to pair with their cocktails. They also offer a full kitchen, so if you plan to say for dinner, its one of the best views in Glendale.

Eden On Brand

Eden on Brand is a great spot to enjoy the buzz of downtown Glendale. They have an exquisite choice of sliders that you wouldn’t find otherwise. Their Caviar sliders and Black label sliders are cult favorites.

Ever heard of Truffle flatbread? Well, this rooftop has many such mouth watering, innovative dishes on their menu. They are open till midnight on Saturdays and Sundays, and until 10 pm on weeknights.

Offshore 9 Rooftop Lounge

Huntington Beach

This rooftop lounge located on the 9th floor has great views of the ocean and Huntington beach. They have live music on Thursday and Sunday nights. It’s a great spot to watch the sunset if you don't want to be at the beach.

Sit down at the lounge tables with fire pits and enjoy the evening after the sunset. They have shareable menu items that are great for groups.

Elevate Lounge

811 Wilshire Blvd 21st floor, Los Angeles

This is one of the most happening rooftop lounges in Downtown LA. It's a great spot to get a taste of LA nightlife. Located on the 21st floor, it feels like a penthouse but opens up into a bar area that you can enjoy the amazing, architectural views of the city.

They have bottle service and host a lot of special events. One of the best ways to get in is to sign-up for their guest list to stay up-to-date and be invited to upcoming events.

Grandmaster Recorders

One of the newest, best, rooftop spots to get a direct view of the Hollywood sign. They have a great food and drinks menu to choose from. Their happy hours during weekdays have $5 pizza by the slice, and they have live music on weeknights, and are open late until 2 am.

W Hollywood Rooftop

6250 Hollywood Blvd

The wet deck at W Hollywood has views of the Hollywood Hills and downtown Hollywood. It offers cabanas and daybeds that can be booked on their site. Many a famous pool party have been thrown here.

The ambience is relaxed during the weekdays but be prepared for more fun times with live DJs on the weekends.

Desert 5 Spot

You don’t need to travel all the way to Palm Springs to enjoy a desert ambience, it's right here in the heart of Hollywood. The vintage décor is beautiful to relax and sip canned beers and cocktails.

They have an in-house band and you can enjoy live music in this Pioneer-town inspired spot. Country hits and classic rock is the vibe on the weekends!

Margot is a cute rooftop in Culver City that has young crowds there to enjoy drinks on weekdays and weekends. Margot’s décor is luxurious and they have great small plates and cocktails.

This is one of the best hotel patio spots in Santa Monica, with a backdrop of the ocean. Calabra is not limited to just normal food, they have a special poolside menu that offers wellness juices and smoothies, that you can pair with fresh salads.

Their cocktail list is also quite exquisite. They have a special sushi menu from Thursday - Sunday, and brunch all day on the weekends. Special events almost every weekend with live DJs makes this a great spot in Santa Monica for any day of the week.

EP & LP is 2 levels, EP being the restaurant and LP the rooftop. It’s one of the biggest rooftops that has views of the Hollywood Hills and the Sunset Strip.

It's open late until 2 am, so it makes for a great spot on both weeknights and weekends. Their happy hour food and drink menu is small but worth it for the views.

The Broken Shaker

The Broken Shaker is an award-winning cocktail bar. The rooftop bar is open from day to night and you can enjoy views of Downtown LA from here.

Tucked away in El Segundo, close to LAX, Flora is a well-kept secret as the guests here are mostly corporate employees enjoying drinks on weekdays. This small, low key rooftop in Culver City is great if you want to stay away from the city buzz and enjoy a drink while still enjoying the feeling of being on a rooftop. It's a great spot for drinks with co-workers or for that first date.

They have a good selection of cocktails, wines and beer. There is no food on the menu, so pick a spot to go to before or after to eat.

Reyes Winery on Main

24329 Main St, Santa Clarita

Here’s a rooftop in a winery. Reyes Winery is located in the Santa Clarita Valley just a 45 min drive outside of downtown Los Angeles.

They offer wine tastings and a dinner menu on Thursdays and Fridays. On the weekends, besides brunch and dinner, the rooftop also has a wine and tapas special between 3 pm and 5 pm.

525 E Broadway, Long Beach

This Latin American inspired bar is a vibrant spot to enjoy the outdoors in Long Beach. Don’t miss Taco Tuesdays as they have craft margaritas by the glass for $8 and handmade corn tortilla tacos for $3.

Happy hours are every day of the week between 4-7pm Monday-Friday and 3-6pm on the weekends.

Odyssey Restaurant

A rooftop away from the city lights, yet having wonderful views of the San Fernando Valley, this farm to table restaurant is a great choice if you want to enjoy an intimate dinner or spend some time with friends or co-workers and enjoy the sunset.

They have $5, $7 and $9 drinks specials and half-off select food items during their happy hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 4:30 and 6:30 pm. It’s a short window, so don’t miss out on the offer. Otherwise, they still offer an elaborate dinner menu and craft cocktails.

Coco Palm Restaurant

The Coco Palm Restaurant is primarily a wedding venue, but when there are no events scheduled, you can enjoy Cuban food on their balcony-like patio.

This is a great spot for a romantic date.

Rooftop Cinema Club El Segundo

This is not your traditional rooftop with a cocktail bar. If you are looking for an open-air movie experience, then head to Rooftop Cinema Club. Checkout their website for listings and to purchase tickets in advance. As for food, you are allowed to bring your own food, and can purchase beer, wine, canned cocktails, and snacks at the venue.

The Venice Whaler

Another great spot to enjoy the sunsets is The Venice Whaler, located in the heart of Venice right by the sand. This place offers a full menu with appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and seafood that you can pair with a wide variety of local brews, wine, and cocktails.
